Merritt Helfferich is the Founder and CEO of Innovation Consulting. He has been a resident of Fairbanks, Alaska for more than 50 years. During that time he has had a varied professional career that includes:

30 years at the University of Alaska including as a ballistic meteorologist and flight safety officer at the Poker Flat Research Rocket Range
An ice technician on the transit of the Northwest Passage aboard the SS Manhattan in 1969
Associate Director of the University of Alaska’s Geophysical Institute
Assistant to the Chancellor, and the University System Associate Vice President for Human Resources.

During these years, he wrote numerous grant proposals, some of which resulted in multi-million dollar projects for which he served as director.  More recently, he helped to create and manage volunteer service organizations and has advised and evaluated nonprofit organizations.  He holds a BA from the University of Alaska and a Master of Public Administration degree from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. For fun, he gives workshops on “Humor in the Workplace” and topics of Research Administration and he sails.

April Crosby is the President of Innovation Consulting. She has been a resident of Fairbanks, Alaska for more than 30 years. Her career included:

Investigator for the State of Alaska Office of the Ombudsman
Assistant to the President of the University of Alaska Statewide System
Dean of Instruction at Ilisagvik College in Barrow, Alaska.
Faculty member in Philosophy at Colorado Women’s College, Colby College in Maine, the University of Alaska, and at Galena Air Force base in remote Alaska.   

As a private consultant, she worked extensively with federal and state natural resource agencies and with nonprofit organizations, offering meeting facilitation, planning, board training, organizational assessment and other organizational development services.  She holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Vanderbilt University. In addition, she holds a Master of Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where she focused on conflict resolution and natural resource policy.  For fun, she hikes and bikes.
